This semester took a lot out of me. I didn’t realize how tough it would be to juggle working almost 20 hours a week, 18 credits, and designing costumes for the J-term musical. Still, I survived and I have met most of the goals I set for myself at the beginning of the semester. I’ll have to wait to analyze my grade goal until after finals week. As of right now, though, I am sitting at an A in all of my classes (except for an AB in Auditing). Out of all of the classes I would have expected to get an AB in, I wouldn’t have expected for it to be a Haen class. Usually, I do well in Jason’s classes. They’re all structured mostly the same, with the exception of the content. Generally, it is easy to tell what would be on the exam. However, with Audit, I don’t know what happened. In other Jason classes, you can re-do a lot of homework and practice problems to get a feel for the questions. They are mostly calculation-based. But Audit is different. You either know it, or you don’t. There are no calculations, and, while you can re-do homework and practice problems, all that does is help you memorize the answers to specific questions. It is difficult to apply the concepts you learn to other aspects of the course. So, I never did as well on the tests as I would have liked. But I managed to squeak by with an AB, so I’m not too upset over it.
Let’s take a look at some of my other goals:
- Participate in Strings and Things more
- I definitely accomplished this. There were only a few meetings that I didn’t go to because I was busy studying for a test. Overall, though, I went to a majority of the meetings.
- Stay on top of schoolwork.
- Hmmm…this is trickier to evaluate than I thought. I did manage to turn in all of my assignments on time, but I think there were a few times where I could have worked more on my schoolwork instead of doing something else. In the end, everything did get done, so that’s good, I suppose.
- Advocate for myself at work.
- Yeah! I did actually ask Emma to cut my hours a bit, since I was definitely overcommitted at the beginning of the semester. I got her to shave off an hour and a half of my weekly work schedule. That extra hour really helped with my mental health, I think.
- Complete at least one more project for the TechBar
- Boy howdy, did I accomplish this one. I’ve completed four projects over the semester, and I have a few more that are just waiting for approval. So, yeah, I accomplished this goal.
